Good morning families,
It looks like we are slowly warming up out of the deep freeze and may get excellent conditions for Cross Country Skiing next week!
I wanted to inform you of a few items and provide a few reminders as we have a lot of exciting events going on this Month!
Cross Country Skiing Volunteers Request
As you can imagine, getting snow clothes and skis on a few hundred students is quite an adventure. We are looking for volunteers to help us make this process go as smoothly as possible. If you are able and have your volunteer profile complete, please sign up at the following link. We would be so grateful!

We keep a selection of clothing at school in case of any mishaps that occur for students. Right now we are running quite low on boys pants of all sizes but especially the smallest ones, which would primarily fit Kindergarten aged students. If you have any gently used small pants that your child has grown out of, we would happily accept them into our collection.
Sherwood Principal Update
It is a bitter-sweet announcement that Dr. Karena Munroe will be taking on the role of Principal at David Thompson School. Dr. Munroe has had a significant impact on the learning and development of so many of our community students. She has worked tirelessly to build on the school's academic programming and developing a variety of learning opportunities such as leadership, sports development, fine arts and so much more. Her dedication to our community will be greatly missed and we wish her all the best on her new adventure.
On the flip side, I am also thrilled to announce the new Principal to Sherwood School. Ms. Brenna Fraser will be bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to fill those big shoes. She will be available tonight at the Sherwood School Open House from 5:30-7:00 pm for any families planning to attend. I know we will give her the warm welcome that I received when joining this amazing group of schools.
Please see her note of introduction:
Dear Banting and Best Families,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Principal of Sherwood School, officially beginning my role on March 3, 2025. With extensive experience as a Principal across various locations in the city, I am eager to bring my passion for education, leadership, and community engagement to Sherwood.
My decision to apply for this position was driven by my strong belief in the power of community schools and the importance of fostering their unique identity. Sherwood’s reputation for excellence—both in academics and extracurricular activities—stood out to me, particularly its athletic programs. As an athlete, I recognize the invaluable lessons that sports teach, including teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. I am committed to supporting our school’s teams while also promoting a culture of academic excellence that encourages both staff and students to strive for their personal best.
As Principal, I am dedicated to ensuring that every student thrives both academically and socially. By aligning our goals with the CBE’s 2024-2027 Education Plan, we will cultivate a school culture where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to succeed. Through collaboration, continuous reflection, and targeted actions, we will make measurable progress in student engagement, achievement, and well-being.
Beyond athletics and academic excellence, I am deeply passionate about the Fine Arts and their role in fostering creativity, confidence, and self-expression. I look forward to supporting and enhancing Sherwood’s Fine Arts programs, ensuring that students have access to a well-rounded and enriching educational experience.
As I prepare for this transition, my top priority is to connect with the Sherwood community—students, staff, and families—to listen and learn. I firmly believe in fostering autonomy, valuing diverse perspectives, and ensuring that every voice is heard in shaping the future of our school.
On a personal note, I am a proud parent of four children, ranging in age from 11 to 21. Through them, I have gained firsthand insight into the evolving needs and aspirations of middle-years learners as they seek greater independence. This perspective fuels my dedication to creating a school environment where students feel empowered, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the Open House today and other opportunities in the future.
Sincerely,
Brenna Fraser, Incoming Principal to Sherwood
