Hello families,
Thank you for the amazing turnout of families to School Conferences last week. It was wonderful to learn more about our students and families, set goals and find supports that can help with student learning. Community is such a critical priority for us at Banting and Best School and we appreciate all our parents and guardians do, to work together for the benefit of our students.
Orange Shirt Day
The weather could not have been better to spend time on the land, reflecting on our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. We hope you all had an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful weather. We will be recognizing our commitment on Tuesday, October 1st, with learning about Indigenous Ways of Knowing and the significance of Orange Shirt Day. We have school-wide learning opportunities planned and encourage students to wear an orange colored shirt to honor this work.
Family Groups
This Friday we will be launching our first of 8 'Family Group' sessions. We want all of our students to have a strong sense of belonging and one way to build this is by increasing the number of connections they have with others in the building. We have made groups containing students from each grade. Each teacher has created a lesson based on the Physical Education and Wellness curriculums. Family Groups will rotate through each lesson on various Fridays throughout the year. Ask your child about the new friends they are making.
Donation Request
We are looking for magazines and flyers for a school project. We are particularly in need of grocery flyers. If you have any you are willing to donate to the school, please send them with your child or drop them in the office. Thank you!
Special Treat Day Opportunities
Our School Council will again be hosting multiple fundraisers this year including Fun Lunches, Popcorn Fridays and Donut Days! Each event has food available for purchase which is delivered directly to your child at school. These are optional. For those families who are interested, please create a Healthy Hunger account at www.healthyhunger.ca and select Banting and Best School. Payment this year will be online only. Orders are due 5 days prior to each event. You can choose one or choose them all. You can pay for them all in advance, or up to 5 days before each event.
For Kindergarten families, please make special note that many of these days fall over lunch hour and Kindergarten is not in class. There will be opportunities on some Fridays where students can participate.
