Hello families,

January has been a busy month at Banting and Best School and February is heating up to get even more eventful! Our staff are dedicated to creating a learning environment that extends the amazing learning happening in classrooms every day, to additional opportunities beyond! From family nights, to residencies to fieldtrips and more. Please mark the following events on your calendars and join in on the excitement.

January 30th – Professional Learning Day

  • No School for Students
  • Staff will be in a variety of sessions online and across the city at numerous locations

Jump Rope for Heart

  • We have met and surpassed our fundraising goal...with more time to go!!! Our community is a beautiful place that is always ready to jump up and help others. You can check out our page @ https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/118237
  • We are looking forward to our skipping lessons in Phys. Ed. with the final event on February 11, 2026. We have challenges, prizes and leadership galore so stay tuned @bantingandbestschool on Instagram for photos of the celebration.

Reading Buddies

  • We are looking for volunteers to share in our joy of reading. If you like reading stories and discussing books with kids, please check out the following link. No experience is required. We have an orientation session on February 6th at 9:00 a.m. with an opportunity to read with students after that. Please email amproctor@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested or have any questions.

Family Literacy Night

  • Each year we host an amazing Family Night to celebrate the joy of literacy. This year we have a special guest, Melissa Allan who is a locale author! Beginning at 5:30 pm, families will be entertained by a reading of her book and then several fun activities to follow. We hope to see all our students and families there:)
  • The Scholastic Book fair will open at 6:15 pm after the presentation for families who would like to purchase books. Books can also be purchased during the school day, more information to follow. Our school receives a portion of sales back to purchase more books for our amazing library collection.

Sherwood School Open House

  • Sherwood School is welcoming our families for an Open House to learn about all the amazing opportunities offered and for a tour. This is open to any of our families. It is a fantastic opportunity especially for our Grade 3 students who are designated to Sherwood School for the following year. We have found that attending the Open House helps students and parents feel more prepared for the transition to middle school.
