Family Literacy Night - Feb 8, 2024

You are invited to the Banting and Best School Family Literacy Night! This event will take place on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 5:30 - 7:00pm. Come to school in your cozy pajamas and enjoy a fun night dedicated to Literacy! As you enter the building, we will gather as a school in the gym to welcome everyone to the event. Teachers will then head to their classrooms, and families will be encouraged to circulate through different classes to listen to B&B teachers read some of their favorite stories.

If you wish to snuggle up as a family and read a book together, the gym will be converted into a cozy reading nook with different stories available to choose from!

During this event, the Scholastic Book Fair will be OPEN in the Learning Commons. Take a walk through the book fair to view and purchase new books and Literacy connected tools (ex. games, posters, pencils, notepads, etc.).

Lastly, don't forget to drop your Door Prize slip into the bucket for your chance to win the Literacy Door Prize!!! There is ONE entry per child who attends Banting and Best School.
We can’t wait to see you there!!!

Valentine's Day, February 14: Dress in Red, Pink and/or White! Celebrate caring!

We know that many families like to celebrate Valentine's Day by bringing Valentine's day cards and treats for their classmates. While we support generosity, it is not a requirement and we ask families to follow a few guidelines:

  • Valentine's cards can be a great way to practice fine motor skills by printing student names and possibly cutting and decorating home made cards
    • If you are bringing cards, we ask that you include ALL students in the class
  • We are only able to accept pre-packaged nut-free items (not homemade)
    • If treats are sent, they will be sent home at end of day so that families can decide if/when their child can eat the treats

Traffic Safety

Thank you to the drivers around Banting and Best School who drive slowly during school hours and are mindful of our young learners.

We also have many families that walk to school. This is a fantastic way to get fresh air and a bit of exercise into our students' days. We ask that families that walk pay special attention to the crosswalks and choose to cross the roads only at designated cross walks. We have been provided with excellent signage and traffic calming measures such as the beautifully decorated concrete blocks. Teaching our students how to look both ways and cross carefully will keep us all safe.
